The Nigerian Army regrets to inform the general public of a tragic incident involving Lieutenant S. Haruna and his wife, which occurred on 22 September 2025, resulting in the officer sustaining severe burn injuries.
Following the incident, Lt. Haruna was promptly evacuated to the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital (UUTH), where he received intensive medical care. Despite the best efforts of the medical team, he sadly succumbed to his injuries on 6 October 2025.
In a press statement dated 8 October 2025, and signed by Captain Lawal Bala Muhammad, Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, Headquarters 2 Brigade, Akwa Ibom, Uyo, the Nigerian Army expressed deep condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the late officer. The Army also prayed for the peaceful repose of his soul.
An investigation was immediately initiated following the incident to determine the circumstances surrounding the event. The findings of this investigation will be made public upon its conclusion.
