The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) has named Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, as its “Best Crime Fighter of the Year” in recognition of his reforms and crime-fighting efforts as Commissioner of Police in Lagos State.

The award will be presented during the opening ceremony of the NUJ 2026 Press Week, themed “2027 Election: Defending Democracy in the Era of Disinformation,” scheduled for May 19 at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja.

In a nomination letter signed by the council’s Chairman, Grace Ike, and Secretary, Jide Oyekunle, the NUJ said AIG Jimoh was honoured for his contributions to crime reduction, public safety, and protection of press freedom during his tenure in Lagos.

The council credited him with introducing intelligence-driven policing strategies that strengthened security and led to operational successes against armed robbery, cultism, kidnapping, cybercrime, street violence, and other crimes across the state.

The NUJ also commended his efforts in improving operational structures through enhanced K9 deployment, surveillance coordination, rapid-response policing, and data-driven crime prevention.

It further praised his prompt intervention in cases involving harassment and intimidation of journalists, noting that such actions strengthened confidence among media practitioners.

“Under your exemplary leadership as Lagos State Commissioner of Police, you transformed public safety through innovative strategies, including enhanced K9 operations, rapid response to media harassment cases, and data-driven crime reduction,” the letter stated.

According to the council, AIG Jimoh also promoted stronger collaboration between the police, journalists, civil society groups, community leaders, and other security agencies, thereby improving public trust and intelligence sharing.

“This award celebrates your unique blend of tactical brilliance and collaborative spirit, distinguishing you as one of Nigeria’s foremost crime fighters whose efforts positively impacted both public security and media freedom,” the NUJ added.

AIG Jimoh, a native of Kwara State, currently heads Zone 2 Police Command, covering Lagos and Ogun states. He joined the Nigeria Police Force in 2000 and previously served as Force Public Relations Officer before becoming Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, in 2025.

During his career, he has served in operational, investigative, administrative, and public relations roles across several commands, including the FCT, Cross River, Oyo, and Gombe, as well as in the African Union Mission in Sudan.

He has attended several professional courses within and outside Nigeria and has received multiple honours, including the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations’ Presidential Award for Public Relations Personality of the Year in 2017.
