In the tranquil riverine community of Egweama, an atmosphere of excitement permeated the air as pupils, with radiant smiles and eager anticipation, queued to receive gifts poised to significantly influence their future through a remarkable fusion of compassion, mentorship, and community service.

On Tuesday, May 26, the Forward Operating Base (FOB) FORMOSO conducted an educational outreach program across schools in the Egweama community. This initiative was part of the activities commemorating the Nigerian Navy’s 70th Anniversary Celebration.
The outreach involved the distribution of educational materials to students of St. Mathew School 1 and 2 Egweama, Community Primary School Amugbo, Migrant Fisherman’s Children School Egweama, Migrant Fisherman’s School Egeregere, St. Philip School, and God Powered National Academy Egweama.
This initiative was designed to foster education, encourage academic excellence, and further enhance the amicable relationship between the Nigerian Navy and its host communities.

Addressing the pupils during the event, Captain S.K. Haruna, the Commanding Officer of FOB FORMOSO, exhorted the children to approach education with earnestness and resolve, reminding them that knowledge stands as one of the most potent instruments for achieving success. He stated,
“Knowledge is power, and with it comes great responsibility.” He also cautioned against illicit drug abuse, urging the children to report any individual attempting to entice them into such activities. Referencing the ongoing Naval Headquarters campaign against drug and substance abuse, he underscored the significance of discipline, moral values, and personal safety, emphasizing the Nigerian Navy’s strong condemnation of such acts.

The Commanding Officer expressed appreciation to the Egweama Community for its sustained peace and continuous support to the Nigerian Navy, particularly during the NN@70 Anniversary Celebrations. He also appealed to parents to empower their children through quality education and sound upbringing.

The outreach concluded on a heartwarming note, as pupils and teachers conveyed their gratitude to the Nigerian Navy for the thoughtful gesture. They described the intervention as impactful, inspiring, and a genuine testament to the Navy’s commitment extending beyond maritime security.
