The Apapa Port Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has set a new benchmark in revenue collection, amassing N1,227,431,323,016.24 between January and July 2024. The command also recorded its highest-ever monthly collection of N201,853,406,964.61 in July 2024.
Comptroller Babatunde Olomu, Area Controller of the Apapa Command, announced these figures on Wednesday and expressed his commitment to exceeding previous records. Notably, the revenue collected in the first seven months of 2024 surpasses the total revenue of N1,172,414,793,960.32 collected throughout the entire year of 2023.
Comptroller Olomu attributed the success to the implementation of the Comptroller General of Customs’ time release study, which has streamlined trade processes and facilitated quicker operations. He commended the contributions of the Tariff and Trade Department, along with the efforts of various internal units such as the compliance desk, dispute resolution team, Valuation, PCA, and CIU.
“The Apapa Area Command’s performance is a testament to our dedicated approach to revenue collection and trade facilitation,” said Comptroller Olomu. “We are optimistic about surpassing this record in the coming months, as we remain focused on improving our operations and adhering to the directives of Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR dsm psc (+).”
Comptroller Olomu also reassured stakeholders of the command’s readiness to support port operations, even amid nationwide protests, and emphasized the importance of legitimate trade practices. He affirmed the command’s commitment to detecting concealment and minimizing revenue leakage.
The Apapa Command, handling the highest volume of trade for the Nigeria Customs Service, continues to set high expectations for revenue generation and operational efficiency.
