Tinubu/Shettima, Sanwo-olu/Hamzat Independent Campaign Council, Directorate of Senior Citizens, Widows and Widowers on Wednesday organised free medical check-up and health insurance for its members.
Voice of Masses reports that the event was themed “Sanwo-olu 1000 Free Medical, Health Insurance and Check-up Drive For Senior Citizens, Widows and Widowers.
According to the Director General, Mr Tayo Ayinde, the idea was borne out of the APC Presidential Candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s love for the old people who he described as senior citizens.
Ayinde commended members for the turnout, adding that the Council would not relent in making life easier for the senior citizens and Lagos residents.
“You are our mothers and it is our responsibility to take care of you. Remember how Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu took care of his mother, that shows that we will always care about you.
“Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a lover of everyone and has supported a lot of people compared to other candidates, let us put hands together so that we can vote him in as the President during the General Elections.
“Asiwaju will take care of the old in all aspects especially healthcare. Look at his achievements in the past, let us support him to make Nigeria great again,” he said.
The General Manager, Lagos Health Management Agency (LASHMA) Dr Emmanuella Zamba said the agency is the strategic tool that government is using to achieve universal health coverage in Lagos state.
“Now one aspect of what we do, of course as governments is to be able to care for the vulnerable and the needy, those that cannot pay the amounts that we are asking for even as affordable as it is, under the scheme.
“That aspect is called (EKOSHA), Eko Social Health Alliance. That is our resource mobilization, that we provide funds to be able to register people under the scheme.
“Now, we have started our EKOSHA Community Storm, which is that we have 300 million from Mr. Governor. We also have some funds from Federal Government, which is under the physical care provision fund.
“We are going around all the 57 local governments and LCDAs to be able to enroll all the vulnerable residents in Lagos state, of course that funding is not sufficient for everybody, however, we will continue to get funding from the government and we are calling on all well meaning individuals to join hands with us and help us to ensure that everybody gets access to qualitative and affordable care.
“We were invited by the independent campaign Council today to come and register the elderly who they have a program for who are also vulnerable under under the law,” she said.
Princess Aderemi Adebowale of the Directorate Of Senior Citizens, Widows and Widowers also said that it is important that the elders are taking care of as they have impact on the appointment of leaders in the society.
Adebowale said the old people in the society are invaluable as their experience and perspective are imminent in shaping the future of the country.
She said the old people are often neglected in spite of the critical roles they play in the society and further called for more attention to be focused on their plight.
“Many of them are being excluded from participating in elections due to physical limitations like transportation challenges or lack of access to information.
“It is our sole responsibility to ensure that all senior citizens wishes, widows and widowers have seamless opportunity to participate in the electoral process regardless of their circumstances,” she said.
The Leader, Bola Ahmed Tinubu Women Forum (BATWOF), Alhaja Memunat Alao further appreciated the organisers and called on members to pray for the victory of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
According to Alao, members should act as the mothers that they are and support Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu just like they would support their child so that Nigeria can be better.
