Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) successfully thwarted two women’s effort to sell a two-month-old baby on Friday, May 26, 2023.
This was stated in a press release issued by SP Benjamin Hundeyin, anipr, mipra, who serves as the command’s spokesperson.
The incident unfolded in Oshodi when suspicions arose about one Oge Okolie, a 25-year-old woman who acted as an intermediary between the baby’s mother and a prospective buyer.
“Passengers aboard a public bus noticed the incessant crying of the baby in Okolie’s care and questioned why she couldn’t breastfeed the child if it was her own biological offspring.
As tensions escalated, the RRS operatives swiftly intervened to rescue both Okolie and the baby, preventing a potential lynching. Subsequent investigations led to the apprehension of the baby’s mother, Maria Ahmadu, a 26-year-old woman.
CSP Olayinka Egbeyemi, the Commander of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), promptly transferred the suspects and the baby to the Gender Unit of the Command for further investigation and subsequent prosecution.
