The convoy of His Excellency Alhaji Yahaya Bello, the Executive Governor of Kogi State, was obstructed and assaulted today at approximately 12:30 PM. The individuals responsible for the attack are believed to be supporters of Alhaji Muritala Yakubu Ajaka.
The incident occurred near the Naval Base, a few kilometers away from Lokoja. Upon spotting the Governor’s convoy, Muritala Yakubu Ajaka’s convoy blocked the road, and some of his armed thugs began firing indiscriminately at the Governor’s convoy.
A Tundra vehicle displaying the SDP logo and flags obstructed the Governor’s vehicle carrying armed men with rifles and shotguns. Thankfully, the Governor emerged from the situation unharmed, and there is no reason for alarm as he remains in high spirits.
Unfortunately, some of the Governor’s security aides and other staff members sustained various injuries during the incident but have been promptly transported to medical facilities for treatment.
In statement released by the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, noted, “We urge the people of Kogi State to maintain calmness as security personnel have taken full control of the situation and are working diligently to apprehend the criminals responsible for this attack.
“The State Government is committed to upholding law and order, ensuring that the attackers face justice. The Governor has issued a stern warning to all members of the APC party, urging them not to engage in any form of retaliatory violence. Any act of insecurity from any party will be met with severe penalties.”
