Jul 10, 2023

The Police Service Commission has granted approval for the dismissal of three senior police officers due to their involvement in cases of misconduct and abuse of office. Additionally, nine other officers have been demoted in rank, including a Commissioner of Police.

The decisions were made during the continuation of the 21st Plenary Meeting, which commenced on Thursday, July 6th, 2023, at the Corporate Headquarters in Jabi, Abuja.

The meeting was presided over by Justice Clara Bata Ogunbiyi, a retired Justice of the Supreme Court and the Honourable Commissioner representing the Judiciary in the Commission. She stood in for the Commission’s Chairman, Dr. Solomon Arase, a retired Inspector General of Police, who welcomed the members via Zoom and commended them for their diligent attention to disciplinary matters.

Dr. Arase emphasized that these actions were taken in line with his commitment to not hinder the career progression of any officer. Furthermore, the Commission directed the compulsory retirement of an Assistant Commissioner and ordered the refund of all erroneously paid entitlements to the officer.

Recognizing acts of bravery, the Commission posthumously promoted the late Inspector Ifeanyi Oroke to the next rank of ASP 11. Additionally, Inspector Augustina Oko, who was previously dismissed, was reinstated with effect from her date of dismissal.

Also, the Commission approved various levels of punishment for other officers, including severe reprimand for 16 individuals, reprimand for 18 individuals, and letters of warning for two officers.

In a separate decision, the Commission had previously granted the appeal for a promotion date adjustment for ACP Woke Iheanyi Kingsley and the reinstatement of CSP Anaele Samuel Onuoha in compliance with a court judgment.

The 21st Plenary Meeting of the Commission will reconvene on Tuesday, July 11th, 2023.
