The recent launch of the Special Intervention Squad (SIS) by Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has proven to be a pivotal step in enhancing security within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). In collaboration with various police units and state commands, the SIS successfully apprehended sixteen notorious criminals, showcasing the squad’s effectiveness.

Among those paraded were the Bwari-based kidnappers, Idris Ishaku, Bala Umar, and Dahiru Salisu, responsible for numerous armed robberies and kidnappings in Bwari Local Government Area and other parts of the FCT. The combined efforts of law enforcement agencies also thwarted a kidnap plot, leading to the arrest of these individuals and the recovery of a general purpose machine gun (GPMG) and other sophisticated firearms.

The arrest of thirteen additional suspects for various crimes, including the interception of a group involved in the abduction and subsequent financial exploitation of a victim, demonstrates the proactive measures taken by the police. The victim was rescued, and his Hilux Van recovered, highlighting the successful outcome of intelligence-driven operations.

Furthermore, the Department of Force Intelligence – Intelligence Response Team (DFI-IRT) intercepted Everest Magaji, a gunrunner, in negotiations with notorious bandits for the illicit purchase and supply of firearms. The seizure of eleven pistols and two pump-action guns from the suspect reflects the commitment to curbing arms trafficking.

Inspector-General IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun commended the achievements of the Nigeria Police Force in ensuring the safety of the nation. He urged citizens to remain vigilant, report any suspicious activities promptly, and collaborate with law enforcement agencies in maintaining a secure environment.
