Western Marine Customs Command Seizes 4,070 Parcels Of Cannabis Sativa In January 2024

The Western Marine Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has demonstrated its unwavering commitment to combatting smuggling activities in the Western Waterways, intercepting and confiscating 51 sacks containing 4,070 parcels of Cannabis Sativa in the month of January.

On Friday, January 19, 2024, at 12:06 PM, a Joint Patrol Team received credible intelligence about the movement of a wooden boat suspected of transporting illicit goods around the Moba Seashore axis. Following a hot pursuit, the smugglers abandoned the fully loaded boat in the creek, and it was towed back to the Command HQ at Ibafon Apapa. Subsequent examination revealed 4,070 parcels of Cannabis Sativa weighing 1,785 kg.

The Customs Area Controller, Odaudu Salefu, commended the dedication of the officers involved in the operation and assured them of the necessary support and motivation to carry out their anti-smuggling duties effectively in 2024.

In 2023, the Western Marine Command recorded five significant seizures of Cannabis Sativa, totaling 14,920 parcels of the prohibited substance. These seizures were part of the 48 incidents recorded by the Command in 2023, with a total Duty Paid Value of N1,470,397,255.00.

The Western Marine Command is determined to surpass its achievements in 2023 and enhance its performance in 2024, contributing to a safer and more prosperous region.
