CG Adeniyi Strengthens Ties With Former President Buhari, Emir of Daura

The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, engaged in a series of significant visits to two prominent figures on Saturday, March 9, 2024, demonstrating a commitment to collaboration for effective border management.

CGC Adeniyi’s initial visit was to the Daura residence of former President Muhammadu Buhari, where he expressed profound appreciation for the former president’s instrumental role in the establishment of the Nigeria Customs Service Act, 2023. This legislation, according to Adeniyi, provides the NCS with expanded authority to implement policies aimed at enhancing revenue generation and trade facilitation.

Adeniyi took the opportunity to brief former President Buhari on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive regarding the return of seized trucks carrying food exports across the border to traders. This directive, Adeniyi emphasized, aligns with efforts to address socio-economic challenges faced by Nigerians.

Former President Buhari commended the NCS for its crucial role in border protection, highlighting its significance in safeguarding national security interests. Adeniyi assured the former president of the NCS’s commitment to peace, progress, and security in Nigeria.

Continuing his engagements, CGC Adeniyi visited the Emir of Daura, Dr. Farouk Umar Farouk, at his palace in Daura, Katsina State. The visit aimed to strengthen the longstanding partnership between the NCS and the esteemed Daura Emirate.

Adeniyi reflected on past interactions with the former Comptroller-General of Customs, Dikko Inde Abdullahi, expressing confidence in the collective efforts of the NCS and other security agencies to combat threats to national security.

Emir Farouk Umar Farouk warmly appreciated Adeniyi’s visit, pledging unwavering support to the NCS in its pursuit of excellence. He urged Adeniyi to remain resolute in his duties, demonstrating zero tolerance for those undermining national security and economic stability.

In a symbolic gesture, Emir Farouk Umar Farouk honored Adeniyi with the traditional title of ‘Mabuɗin Hausa,’ signifying the enduring bond between the NCS and the Daura Emirate.
