In commemoration of International Women’s Day (IWD) 2024, Nigerian lender Unity Bank Plc has announced a strategic partnership with SkillPaddy for the “Count Her In” tech program. The initiative aims to empower 1,000 female beneficiaries through Software Engineering Training, contributing to bridging the talent supply gaps in the tech industry.

The collaboration with SkillPaddy underscores Unity Bank’s commitment to fostering economic empowerment, gender equality, and diversity across industries. As part of the program, Unity Bank will fully sponsor 40 young girls, aligning with this year’s IWD theme, #InspireInclusion.

With women constituting only 33% of the global tech-related workforce, the initiative seeks to boost female participation in the tech industry. The program is designed to be sustainable and impact-driven, addressing gender disparities and fostering inclusion within the tech sector.

She stated, “Through this program, we are not only investing in the future of these talented women but also driving innovation and diversity within the tech industry. By providing access to skills training and mentorship, we aim to unlock opportunities and create a more inclusive and thriving digital economy for all.”

The beneficiaries of the program will undergo comprehensive training in various aspects of software development, coupled with mentorship and resources to enhance critical thinking, communication, innovation, and problem-solving skills.

This collaboration follows Unity Bank’s recent partnership with AltSchool Africa, a software training provider, as part of the bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility. The initiative sponsored female students to acquire specialist software development skills, further demonstrating the bank’s commitment to empowering women in technology.

The International Women’s Day serves as a global occasion to celebrate the achievements of women across social, economic, cultural, and political spheres. This year’s theme, #InspireInclusion, highlights the importance of creating environments where individuals, regardless of gender, feel valued, respected, and included. The partnership between Unity Bank and SkillPaddy contributes to advancing this crucial cause, fostering a more inclusive and diverse tech landscape.
