In a series of successful operations, the Delta State Police Command has arrested three individuals linked to armed robbery, kidnapping, and cult activities, recovering an assortment of weapons in the process. The crackdown, part of an ongoing initiative to enhance security in the state, was led by Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, who underscored the importance of proactive policing.

On the early morning of May 9, 2024, a special team dispatched to Ughelli and led by ASP Julius Robinson, acting on intelligence, made their first arrest in Oghara town. A 28-year-old suspect, identified as a member of the Eiye confraternity, was apprehended. This suspect then led the police to a local hotel at Koko Junction in Oghara, where a 46-year-old accomplice was arrested and an automatic pump-action gun was seized.

Further interrogations led to a third arrest in Sapele, where a 32-year-old man was taken into custody, and police recovered a new AK-47 rifle along with an empty magazine. The trio is reportedly linked to multiple kidnappings across Ughelli, Warri, Sapele, and surrounding areas.

In a separate incident later that day, at approximately 10:05 PM, police operatives chased a notorious cultist and gun runner in Oleh town, Isoko North LGA. The suspect, Okobe Ability, evaded arrest but dropped a polythene bag containing a Beretta pistol and five live rounds, which were promptly confiscated by the authorities.

Additionally, on May 8, 2024, the Delta State Police’s Dragon Tactical Patrol Teams, during a routine stop-and-search operation along the Ogwashi-Uku/Kwale Road, apprehended 24-year-old Favour Eze. The suspect was found with a locally made pistol, suspected narcotics, and human hair concealed within a bag of clothes. Eze, a native of Amasiri Village in Afikpo L.G.A, Ebonyi State, was traveling from Asaba to Warri in a red Toyota Sienna space van at the time of his arrest.

CP Abaniwonda Olufemi praised the diligence and bravery of his officers, reinforcing the directive that police operations must adhere strictly to legal standards and respect citizens’ rights. He also urged the public to cooperate with police during searches and other security measures.

The Delta State Police Command remains committed to dismantling criminal networks in the region, with ongoing efforts to track down fleeing suspects and further dismantle the activities of criminals that threaten the peace and security of the state.
