In a significant breakthrough, Anambra State Police operatives intercepted a member of a notorious gun-running syndicate in Onitsha at 11:30 am on May 23, 2024. The operation led to the recovery of seven brand new Jojef magnum pump action guns concealed in a bag.
This successful interception is attributed to the strategic intelligence and tact-led policing approach championed by Commissioner of Police (CP) Nnaghe Obono Itam. The operation was part of ongoing efforts to thwart criminal activities, particularly those planned by unlawful groups and secessionists intent on enforcing an illegal sit-at-home on May 30, 2024.
Acting on intel gathered over time, the police operatives laid an ambush at the identified location on Creek Road, Onitsha. Upon sighting the police, the suspect abandoned the bag containing the firearms and fled the scene.
CP Nnaghe Obono Itam has ordered an intensive manhunt for the suspect and other members of the gang. He also urged the residents of Anambra, known as Ndi Anambra, to continue providing security information, assuring them that the police would act promptly to prevent criminal activities by nonstate actors in the state.
