The Commissioner of Police for Anambra State, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, has ordered an immediate investigation following the discovery of a lifeless baby in a sack at a refuse dump along Ifite Road, Awka, on June 2, 2024.
Preliminary investigations indicate the baby was likely a day old and abandoned by an unidentified woman, suspected to be the mother. The police have recovered the body and are working with eyewitnesses at the scene to identify and apprehend the perpetrator.
CP Itam condemned the incident, describing it as an ungodly, barbaric, and inhuman act, highlighting the moral decay in society. He urged parents and guardians to pay closer attention to their children and wards. He also called on anyone with information that could assist in the investigation to contact the Police Command headquarters.
