The Murtala Muhammed Area Command has reported impressive revenue collection figures for the first half of 2024, under the leadership of Comptroller Michael Toyin Awe. The Command collected a total of N80,351,299,068.00 in Customs duty and other charges from January to June 2024, marking a significant increase from the N38,707,054,216.44 collected during the same period in 2023. This 107.5% rise represents an additional N41,644,246,851.56 in revenue.
Comptroller Awe, who has been focusing on enhancing revenue generation and anti-smuggling activities since his appointment, attributed this success to the implementation of strategies aligned with World Customs best practices. These strategies have facilitated ease of doing business, trade facilitation, and reduction in cargo clearance time.
In addition to the impressive revenue collection, the Command recorded exports worth N266,655,113.66 with a Free on Board (FOB) value of $204,597.07 from January to June 2024. Comptroller Awe reiterated the Command’s commitment to sustaining and improving revenue generation in the second half of the year. He called for continued cooperation from all stakeholders and assured them of the Command’s dedication to promoting ease of doing business and trade facilitation.
The Comptroller expressed gratitude to the Officers and Men of the Murtala Muhammed Area Command for their dedication to combating smuggling and urged them to adhere strictly to the rules of engagement. He also thanked the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, and his management team for their support, as well as stakeholders and other security agencies for their collaboration.
