The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has unveiled B’Odogwu, a new Unified Customs Management System, aimed at streamlining trade processes and boosting efficiency. The pilot phase of the innovative platform was launched at Port & Terminal Multi-Services Limited (PTML) in Lagos.
Speaking at the launch, Comptroller General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, described B’Odogwu as a significant step in the NCS’s journey toward modernisation. “B’Odogwu represents our vision for a paperless customs administration, facilitating seamless trade while ensuring robust security measures,” said Adeniyi.
The new system is set to replace the existing Nigeria Integrated Customs Information System (NICIS II), with plans to integrate B’Odogwu into the upcoming National Single Window platform, to be implemented by the Federal Government. The CGC noted that B’Odogwu is supported by the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023, which empowers the Service to develop and maintain electronic systems for improved transparency and stakeholder consultation.
Adeniyi urged stakeholders to embrace the new system and offer constructive feedback. “As we commence this pilot, I urge all stakeholders to provide feedback that will help us refine the system. Your input is critical to the success of this initiative,” he stated.
B’Odogwu is expected to improve the end-to-end business process, offer customised integration for stakeholders, and enhance ease of doing business. The CGC also expressed gratitude to terminal operators, customs officers, licensed customs agents, and the Trade Modernisation Project team for their support.
He further urged customs officers at PTML Command to take their training on the system seriously, as they will be responsible for implementing the initiative in other commands. “You are now pace-setters in the Nigeria Customs Service. We are confident that B’Odogwu will succeed, starting here at PTML,” Adeniyi concluded.
The B’Odogwu system’s development is a collaborative effort between the Nigeria Customs Service and the Trade Modernisation Project team.
