President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Sunday Akin Dare as the Special Adviser on Public Communication and Orientation. The announcement, made on October 23, 2024, highlights Dare’s extensive experience in media, governance, and public communication.
Dare previously served as Nigeria’s Minister of Youth and Sports from 2019 to 2023, where he played a key role in youth development and sports administration. His public service career also includes his role as Executive Commissioner at the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) from 2016 to 2019, managing stakeholder relations.
With a rich media background, Dare was Chief of the Hausa Service at the Voice of America (VOA) in Washington, DC, overseeing radio and online broadcast programs. He also held several high-profile media roles, including Chief of Staff/Special Adviser on Media to President Tinubu when he was APC leader and Senior Special Assistant (Media) to Nigeria’s Minister of Information and Communications.
An accomplished journalist and author, Dare holds degrees from Ahmadu Bello University and the University of Jos, with further studies at prestigious institutions including the London School of Economics, Oxford University, and Harvard University. His contributions to journalism have earned him numerous awards, including the Voice of America Meritorious Honor Award and recognition from the Committee to Protect Journalists.
Dare’s appointment is expected to enhance the administration’s communication strategies, given his wealth of experience in public communication, media management, and stakeholder engagement.
