The 81 Division of the Nigerian Army has commenced a joint investigation with the Nigeria Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team following an explosion that occurred on Friday, April 4, 2025, at a metal scrap yard in the Mushin area of Lagos State.
The unfortunate incident resulted in the death of one individual and left two others injured.
In a statement released by Lieutenant Colonel Olabisi Olalekan Ayeni, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for 81 Division, the Army disclosed that its Counter Improvised Explosive Device (CIED) Squadron has been tasked with collaborating with the police EOD team to uncover the cause of the explosion and examine the general area for public safety.
Residents have been urged to remain calm as investigations proceed. “The team will also inspect the general area to ensure its continued safety. The residents in the general area are advised not to panic and remain calm,” the statement read.
The Division also expressed its condolences to the family of the deceased and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
Efforts are ongoing to determine the exact source and nature of the explosion.
