Africa’s Global Bank, United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc, has unveiled a comprehensive diaspora banking and investment platform aimed at deepening financial ties between Africans worldwide and the continent’s growing opportunity landscape.
The platform, designed for Africans living and working across global markets and within Africa, signals a decisive shift from remittance-led engagement to structured wealth creation, protection and long-term investment.
Unveiled at UBA’s global headquarters in Lagos under the theme “Beyond Banking: Powering the Global African Lifestyle,” the initiative brings together a tightly integrated ecosystem of financial and lifestyle services.
The consortium includes United Capital, Africa Prudential, UBA Pensions, Afriland Properties, Heirs Insurance Group, and Avon Healthcare Limited, each contributing specialised solutions.
Speaking at the launch, UBA’s Head of Diaspora Banking, Anant Rao, described the platform as a strategic redefinition of Africa’s relationship with its global citizens, one anchored on investment, not just money transfers.
He noted that annual African diaspora remittances now exceed $100 billion, underscoring their resilience and potential as a structured source of development finance when properly channelled.
According to Rao, the new ecosystem allows diaspora Africans to bank, invest, insure assets, plan pensions, and own property through a single trusted platform, seamlessly managing cross-border financial commitments.
UBA’s Group Head, Marketing and Corporate Communications, Alero Ladipo, said collaboration was central to delivering a secure and transparent experience for a modern, mobile and globally connected African population.
Partner institutions showcased offerings ranging from globally accessible investment products and regulated real estate pathways to insurance protection, healthcare access and digital pension management.
The initiative is anchored on the philosophy of Africapitalism, championed by UBA’s Founder and Chairman, Tony O. Elumelu, CFR, which promotes long-term private sector investment as a catalyst for economic growth and social impact.
As Africa positions itself as a frontier for global growth, UBA believes mobilising diaspora capital through credible institutions will be pivotal, ensuring that Africa’s next development phase is increasingly financed by Africans, at home and abroad.
