
The acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Disu, yesterday pledged to prioritise peace, stability and national cohesion, stressing that Nigerians remain the “real bosses” of the police.
He spoke shortly after his decoration by President Bola Tinubu, expressing appreciation for the confidence reposed in him.
Disu described his appointment as humbling, adding the President’s public acknowledgment of his past assignments and achievements were encouraging and a call to greater service.
According to him, effective policing required public cooperation and trust, declaring zero tolerance for impunity and unprofessional conduct.
The police chief promised to improve officers’ welfare, noting that motivated personnel are better positioned to perform optimally.
He assured of strict adherence to human rights standards and a zero-tolerance stance on corruption within the police.
While acknowledging prevailing security challenges such as banditry and insurgency, Disu commended officers for their efforts, pledging to strengthen coordination and operational effectiveness nationwide.
In his remarks, outgone IGP, Kayode Egbetokun, thanked President Tinubu for the opportunity to serve, recalling his long-standing professional relationship with both the President and Disu.
Egbetokun said he deliberately invested in capable officers, expressing satisfaction that one of them emerged as Acting IGP.
He expressed confidence that Disu would sustain ongoing reforms and further strengthen intelligence response, discipline and professionalism within the Nigeria Police Force.
