Skyview Property, a Lagos-based real estate development company, has strongly condemned what it described as a coordinated campaign of blackmail and misinformation against Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Olohundare Moshood Jimoh over a disputed property located at Plot 37, Block 77, Lekki Peninsula Scheme 1, Lekki, Lagos. The company maintained that it is the legitimate owner of the property, insisting that its ownership is supported by relevant title documents and a subsisting judgment of the Lagos State High Court.

In a statement issued by the company and signed by Mr Daniel Itua, Skyview Property dismissed claims by Alhaji Akeem Osuolale Ogunseye that he possesses legitimate rights to the property based on a Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) issued in the name of Samuel Alao Ajibode. The company described the allegations as misleading and an attempt to manipulate public opinion, stressing that its acquisition of the property followed a documented chain of ownership and legally executed transactions.

According to Skyview, it acquired the property in 2008 from an individual who had earlier purchased the land from Ajibode. The company explained that the previous owner possessed the original Certificate of Occupancy alongside a Deed of Conveyance duly executed by Ajibode. It further stated that, as part of the subsequent transaction, it paid adequate consideration for the property and also secured another Deed of Conveyance executed by Ajibode in its favour.

The company emphasised that its ownership claim was subsequently affirmed by the Lagos State High Court in a judgment delivered on June 30, 2025, by Justice K. A. Jose. According to Skyview, the court issued an order of perpetual injunction restraining the first defendant, his agents and privies from further trespassing on the property or harassing the claimant. It described the judgment as a significant legal confirmation of its ownership and said it resumed development activities only after the court delivered its decision.

Skyview also defended AIG Jimoh, dismissing attempts to associate him with the property dispute. It explained that Jimoh’s involvement was limited to his official responsibility as the then Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, following reports of alleged attacks on its workers by individuals acting on behalf of Ogunseye. The company said the former police commissioner directed both parties to maintain peace and await the outcome of the ongoing court proceedings rather than take actions capable of undermining the judicial process.

“The recent campaign of blackmail against AIG Jimoh and Skyview is a mere attempt to whip up public sentiment by a person who has no right in law and in fact to the property but has resorted to self-help and violence to scare our workers from the property. We will not succumb to the blackmail,” the company declared.

Providing further details about the history of the transaction, Skyview alleged that Ajibode, an architect, had sold the property in 1992 to an individual before the company eventually acquired it in 2008. It claimed that Ajibode subsequently resurfaced several years after the transaction and demanded N50 million, a request the company considered unjustified. Skyview alleged that Ogunseye became actively involved in the dispute after the company rejected the demand, with attempts allegedly made to forcefully take possession of the property and disrupt its workers’ activities.

The company further described Ogunseye as an agent of Ajibode, arguing that their reported intention to appeal the High Court judgment does not automatically invalidate the decision or prevent its enforcement. It maintained that neither an appeal nor an expression of disagreement with the judgment constitutes a stay of execution, insisting that no court order has restrained it from proceeding with its development plans. Skyview also stated that its proposed development has received the necessary approval from the Lagos State Ministry of Physical Planning and Development.

Explaining its approach to the dispute, the company said it deliberately chose legal procedures and formal petitions to the police rather than resorting to violence or self-help. It accused those challenging its ownership of attempting to intimidate its workforce and create unnecessary public controversy despite the existence of a court judgment. Skyview insisted that it remains committed to respecting the rule of law and would not allow what it described as intimidation and misinformation to derail its legitimate business activities.

The company therefore appealed to journalists and media organisations to exercise due diligence before publishing allegations concerning the Lekki property dispute. It urged media practitioners to examine the relevant ownership documents, court judgment and other available evidence rather than rely exclusively on claims made by interested parties. Skyview reiterated that it possesses the legal documents supporting its acquisition and ownership of the property and maintained that the attempt to drag AIG Jimoh into the controversy was an effort to divert attention from the legal issues already determined by the court.
