The former Inspector General of Police and current Chairman of the Police Service Commission, Solomon Arase has expressed his commitment to building a new Police force that will once again attract Nigerian youths.
This was contained in a statement recently made available to journalist by the Commission’s Head, Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani
As part of his commitment, in less than two months, Arase has successfully established a harmonious working relationship between the Commission and the Nigeria Police Force. Both entities now strive to complement each other rather than compete, with a newfound respect for their distinct responsibilities.
While speaking, he emphasized the importance of mutual respect and shared vision in their operations.
Upon assuming his role at the Commission, Dr. Arase initiated productive conversations with stakeholders, which resulted in the unification of Civil Society Organizations in support of the Commission and the Nigeria Police Force.
Furthermore, he has engaged international donor agencies and other relevant stakeholders in the Police Sector to enhance the capacity of the Commission as an oversight body and the Police as the leading agency in internal security.
He expressed satisfaction with the progress made so far, assuring that the Police Force they are constructing will become a source of national pride.
Reflecting on his two months in office, Arase commended the Inspector General of Police for facilitating the significant promotions of junior Police officers who had experienced career stagnation.
Arase pledged that, under his leadership, no Police officer, regardless of rank, would be allowed to stagnate without just cause while revealing that the Commission has proactively addressed pending disciplinary matters to ensure unobstructed career progression for officers.
He revealed that ever since he assumed office, the Commission has been actively resolving all pending disciplinary matters to facilitate the unhindered career progression of officers.
The Chairman of the PSC also announced that he will be dispatching Commission officers to various Police Zonal Command Headquarters to observe the Inspector’s promotion interviews conducted by the Departmental Selection Board.
These interviews will commence nationwide on Monday, June 5th, 2023.
Arase also emphasized the importance of the Commission’s staff conducting themselves in a manner that upholds the current high standards within the organization while sternly warning against any form of misconduct or corruption during official assignments noting that it will not be tolerated under his watch.
Furthermore, he pledged to continue his efforts towards fostering unity and progress within both the Commission and the Nigeria Police Force.
