The Kano State Police Command apprehended two individuals posing as military officers, two fake customs officers, and over ninety other suspected criminals across different locations in the state.
The arrests were made in connection with offenses such as kidnapping, robbery, drug trafficking, and phone snatching.
During the parade of the suspects at the Police state headquarters, Commissioner of Police, CP Hussein Gumel, emphasized the police’s commitment to ensuring a smooth and secure transition for the Kano State Governorship Inauguration, scheduled for May 29, 2023.
He highlighted the intensified efforts of the police, including intelligence-led operations, aimed at promoting peace and security.
CP Gumel provided details of the arrests, stating that a total of ninety-six suspects had been apprehended. The arrested individuals were involved in various crimes, with a significant number related to drug abuse, which often served as a catalyst for violent offenses such as mobile phone robbery, kidnapping, armed robbery, and motor vehicle theft.
The Commissioner of Police disclosed that fifty-two suspects were specifically arrested for mobile phone robbery, resulting in the recovery of numerous stolen phones. Additionally, over 150 illicit drug substances were seized, including twenty cartons of Codeine Syrup, forty-five parcels, and three hundred and three wraps of suspected cannabis leaves.
Other confiscated items included suspected Exol tablets, thirty pieces of suspected Diazepam, thirty pieces of “Suck and Die,” and more.
Also, the police recovered three locally made guns, various dangerous fabricated weapons, four motor vehicles, two tricycles, six motorcycles, one roll of power cables, two plasma TVs, one air conditioner, two jerricans of 25 liters of palm oil, a gas cylinder, a ceiling fan, several wristwatches, and twenty-eight peg-irons used for grave identification in cemeteries, among other items.
