The Area Controller of Seme Border, Comptroller Dera Nnadi mni, has highlighted record-breaking accomplishments he has made since taking over in January 2023.
Dera made this disclosure when speaking with our reporter at his command today.
By expanding on the foundation laid by his predecessor, Assistant Comptroller General of Customs Jibo, Nnadi has changed the appearance of the frontier command.
From creating a collaborative border security team with other sister security agencies, over which he serves as chairman, to boosting revenue generation, which had nearly completely stalled when he took office.
Establishing frameworks for a standard social responsibility through the availability of the command’s medical facilities to civilians, organizing sporting events, and collaborating with local traditional leaders to combat the threat of smuggling and other economic crimes that thwart national development, the Area Controller has improved relations between communities and communities along the border.
“The re-establishment of licenced Customs agents and increasing their numbers to work to facilitate the efficient movement of goods is also on his record. Also, the process of getting the clearance from the Ministry of Finance on importation, has been greatly reduced as approvals can now be gotten directly from the command instead of the arduous journey and facing long bureaucratic process in Abuja.
According to him, “Interception of contraband, illegal passports, fake currencies and substandard goods have been on the rise under his watch. The astronomical increase in revenue generation under the command has been recorded as N130 million naira, N 155 million naira, N 147 million naira, N 211 million naira in the months of January, March, April and May respectively.
“More achievements include the space for about a million vehicles and trucks for clearing and a commissioned privately owned bonded terminal.
“These have not just been personal achievements but a high ratings for the Federal government.”
