In a resounding victory against narcotics trafficking, the Nigerian Navy Ship Beecroft’s Quick Response Team, led by its Commander, Commodore Kolawole Olumide Oguntuga, has successfully intercepted an astonishing 2500KG of suspected Cannabis Sativa as part of the ongoing Operation WATER GUARD. The commendable operation unfolded at Ibeju Lekki and Alaba Rago in Lagos state.

Guided by the Maritime Domain Awareness facility Falcon Eye Alignment during a routine intelligence-led patrol, the Quick Response Team intercepted a large wooden boat at Ibeju Lekki loaded with 64 bags of Cannabis Sativa, totaling over 2,500KG.

In a subsequent targeted raid based on credible intelligence at Alaba Rago, the team seized another sack containing over 23 wraps of substances suspected to be Cannabis Sativa derivatives known as SK on January 14, 2024.

These significant figures underscore the immense impact of the Nigerian Navy Ship Beecroft’s efforts in curbing the influx of narcotics through Lagos waterways.

Recognizing the potential use of ill-gotten wealth from narcotics to finance criminal activities, coupled with the risks posed to the mental and physical health of users, emphasizes the critical importance of such operations for national security.

The intercepted narcotics, with a total weight exceeding 2500KG, have been handed over to officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for necessary action. This unprecedented interception reaffirms the commitment of the Nigerian Navy in alignment with the Strategic Directives of Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, Chief of the Naval Staff, towards maintaining a secure and drug-free nation, thereby enhancing national development and economic prosperity.
