In a significant stride towards gender equality and empowerment, the non-profit organization, Focus Africa, has been designated as Lead for Africa, Gender Priority Strategy (GEPS) by the Africana Women Working Group at the United Nations in New York, USA.
Founded by former Bayelsa State First Lady, Mrs. Alanyingi Sylva, Focus Africa has garnered recognition for its tireless efforts in championing the rights and opportunities of women across the continent. The appointment as Lead for Africa, GEPS, empowers Focus Africa to spearhead initiatives aimed at advancing gender equality on a continental scale.
The unveiling ceremony, held in Abuja, Nigeria, witnessed the presence of notable personalities including the wife of the Senate President, Mrs. Ekaette Akpabio. The Africana Women Working Group highlighted Focus Africa’s dedication to promoting gender equality and empowering women, emphasizing the organization’s pivotal role in shaping policies and actions to benefit women.

With the inauguration of the Gender Priority Strategy in Abuja, Nigeria, Focus Africa is called upon to sow the seeds of gender equality, bridging existing gaps and empowering women across the continent. During the ceremony, Ambassador Sucex Bright Ibeh, Founder of Focus Africa Series Project, received the certificate from UN Ambassador Her Excellency Mrs. Sylva. He acknowledged the appointment as a call for further action towards women’s engagement and empowerment, pledging to continue community impact projects across the continent. Ambassador Ibeh expressed gratitude to Professor Ada Juni Menakaya, UN Coordinator, Africana Women Working Group, and her team for their efforts in amplifying women’s voices.
