On Monday, May 6, 2024, Dr. Babatunde Olomu was officially appointed as the new Customs Area Controller of the Nigeria Customs Service at the Apapa Command, succeeding Comptroller Babajide Jaiyeoba, who retired on the same day.

Comptroller Jaiyeoba, who coincidentally celebrated both his retirement and birthday today, addressed the gathering, reflecting on his impactful eight-month tenure. He proudly noted a record-breaking achievement of generating 12 billion Naira in a single day, surpassing the previous record of 10 billion Naira set just before he assumed office in September 2023.

The incoming Controller, Dr. Babatunde Olomu, shared his apprehensions about continuing such an impressive legacy but affirmed his commitment to maintaining and possibly exceeding these achievements. Dr. Olomu’s dedication aligns with the objectives of the incumbent CGC of Customs, Alhaji Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, under whose guidance he promises to operate.

During the ceremony, stakeholders including Deputy Comptroller of Customs, George O. Odusola, and journalists Udeme and Elder Okey paid tributes to Comptroller Jaiyeoba’s successful administration and expressed their optimism and support for Dr. Olomu. Deputy Comptroller Odusola specifically highlighted his commitment to offering “unalloyed loyalty” from the entire command to support the new Controller in achieving his ambitious service goals.

As Dr. Olomu takes the helm of the Apapa Command, the focus remains steadfast on upholding the high standards set by his predecessors and pushing towards new heights in service and revenue generation for Nigeria’s prosperity.
