President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will commission the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Conversion, Filling, Reverse Engineering and Training Centre in Utako, Abuja, on Friday, May 31, 2024. This landmark event underscores NASENI’s commitment to supporting the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, focusing on sustainable energy alternatives and a clean energy ecosystem.
The NASENI-Portland CNG Conversion and Training Centre, developed in partnership with Portland Gas Limited, is a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to converting fossil fuel vehicles to CNG, a cleaner and more cost-effective alternative. The centre is equipped with the latest technology and staffed by highly trained professionals, ensuring efficient and safe vehicle conversions. It will also provide comprehensive training programs for technicians, engineers, and other stakeholders, promoting the domestication of CNG expertise and the adoption of green energy solutions across Nigeria.
Khalil Suleiman Halilu, Executive Vice Chairman/CEO of NASENI, highlighted the significance of the NASENI-Portland Gas Reverse Engineering Centre. He emphasized that the establishment of this facility marks a transformative moment for Nigeria’s energy sector. “At NASENI, we are committed to reducing our carbon footprint and providing affordable, eco-friendly fuel alternatives to Nigerians,” Halilu stated.
He further explained that the initiative aims to significantly reduce vehicular emissions, contributing to cleaner air and a healthier environment. Additionally, the adoption of CNG is expected to offer economic benefits by reducing fuel costs for consumers and creating new job opportunities in Nigeria’s green energy sector.
Halilu encouraged all stakeholders, from vehicle owners to industry professionals, to take advantage of the services and training opportunities available at the new centres. “Together, we can drive forward a greener, more sustainable future for Nigeria,” he added.
Aligned with the Presidential directive on CNG (PCNGi), NASENI has demonstrated notable proficiency in automotive reverse engineering, exemplified by the successful local assembly of CNG kits. The NASENI team of engineers and technicians have skilfully assembled comprehensive CNG sequential kits, including essential components such as Pressure Regulators, Petrol Solenoid Valves with manual override switches, On-Off valves and refuelling connectors, Control Modules/Change-over Switches, CNG level Indicators (LED Indicators), Gas Air Mixers, CNG cylinders with valves, vapour bags & brackets, Petrol hoses, low-pressure gas hoses, ignition advance processors, wire harnesses, and NRVs in petrol return lines.
This new initiative by NASENI is poised to play a crucial role in advancing Nigeria’s energy sector towards sustainability and innovation, providing both environmental and economic benefits for the nation.
