In commemoration of the Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) 2024, the 81 Division Nigerian Army (NA) conducted a Public Speaking Engagement with secondary school students in Lagos and Ogun states on July 2, 2024. This event, part of the activities marking the NA’s 161 years of existence, aimed to share insights and discuss the NA’s role in promoting peace and stability across the nation. It also reflected on the NA’s achievements and ongoing efforts in maintaining Nigeria’s sovereignty and integrity.
Held at HOMAT Group of Schools in Ikorodu, Lagos, and Lafenwa High School in Abeokuta, Ogun, the event showcased the NA’s contributions to national security and its commitment to professionalism. Targeting future leaders, it highlighted the criteria for commissioning and enlisting in the NA, fostering mutual relationships between the participants and the Army.
Lieutenant Colonel OD Bamiteko, Acting Director of 81 Division Education Services, delivered the opening address, emphasizing the event’s purpose to project the NA’s image positively and influence young generations’ perceptions and attitudes. He thanked the Chairman of Homat Group of Schools for the warm reception.
The event featured a documentary on the NA’s history and activities, a lecture by Team Leader Lieutenant Colonel MM Marwa, and a snap quiz competition. An interactive session allowed the Public Speaking Engagement Team to engage with students, answering questions and providing clarifications about the NA. Souvenirs were presented to the host school’s management, and branded exercise books were given to all participants.
