Navy Reaffirms Nigerian Navy’s Commitment to Maritime Security During Visit to Shippers’ Council

The Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral MG Oamen, has reiterated the Nigerian Navy’s commitment to securing the nation’s waters and enhancing maritime operations.

He made this known during a courtesy visit to the Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC), Dr. Pius Ukeyima Akutah, at the council’s headquarters in Apapa, Lagos, on February 11, 2025.

During the visit, Rear Admiral Oamen emphasized the strategic role of the Western Naval Command in ensuring safety along Nigeria’s waterways.

He further highlighted the Navy’s readiness to collaborate with the Shippers’ Council in advancing the shipping industry, particularly in alignment with the Federal Government’s blue economy initiative.

Dr. Akutah, in his response, expressed appreciation for the visit and acknowledged the vital role of the Nigerian Navy in fostering a secure maritime environment.

He assured that the Shippers’ Council remains open to partnerships that will enhance trade facilitation, promote economic growth, and strengthen maritime security.

The meeting underscored the shared commitment of both institutions to fostering a safe and efficient maritime sector, a critical component of Nigeria’s economic development strategy.
