On Friday, May 29, 2026, Forward Operating Base (FOB) FORMOSO conducted a complimentary medical outreach for the residents of Beletiama Community in Brass LGA, Bayelsa State. This initiative was a component of the activities commemorating the 70th Anniversary Celebration of the Nigerian Navy, with the objective of providing accessible healthcare services to foster healthy living among the host community members.

During the event, Captain SK Haruna, the Commanding Officer of FOB FORMOSO, emphasized the critical role of good health in national productivity, stating, “a healthy nation is a working nation.” He encouraged residents to prioritize their health and adopt healthy living practices.
As part of the program, the Base Medical Officer, Surgeon Lieutenant Commander DJ Omoamilo, delivered a health talk focusing on what he termed the “Five Pillars of Good Health”: Nutrition, Lifestyle choices, Exercise, Adequate Rest for both mind and body, and positive Consciousness. He asserted that adherence to these principles would enable individuals to sustain a healthier and more productive life.
Teenage girls within the community also participated in a sensitization session on menstrual hygiene, led by Miss Florence Ibenagum, an NYSC member serving in the area. She underscored the importance of proper hygiene practices and health awareness among young females.

The event concluded with the distribution of medical supplies and relief materials, including medicated glasses, sanitary pads, and mosquito nets, to community members.
This initiative reflects the Nigerian Navy’s dedication to enhancing civil-military relations and improving the well-being of communities within its operational zones.
