Forward Operating Base (FOB) FORMOSO has conducted its Third Quarter Route March as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen physical fitness, endurance and operational readiness among its personnel. The exercise, held on 26 September 2026 within the Egweama communities, was conducted in accordance with the Nigerian Navy’s scheduled programme of events and attracted personnel as well as members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) serving at the Base.
The Route March was designed to promote physical wellbeing, improve endurance and reinforce the importance of maintaining a healthy and physically fit workforce. The exercise also provided an opportunity for participants to engage in coordinated physical activity while sustaining the level of preparedness required for effective performance of their duties. The initiative underscores the importance the Nigerian Navy places on physical fitness as a key component of personnel readiness.
Speaking after the exercise, the Commanding Officer of FOB FORMOSO, Captain SK Haruna, commended all participants for their commitment, enthusiasm and positive attitude throughout the Route March. He praised their willingness to sustain the established culture of physical fitness and operational preparedness, noting that regular physical exercises remain essential to maintaining personnel in the right condition to respond effectively to assigned responsibilities.
Captain Haruna further highlighted the significance of the exercise in the wake of the recently concluded CNC Live Firing Exercise. According to him, sustained physical fitness and preparedness are particularly important following demanding operational activities, as personnel are expected to maintain the required standards of endurance, alertness and readiness at all times.
The Commanding Officer therefore urged all participants not to relent in their commitment to physical fitness and healthy living. He encouraged personnel to pay proper attention to their health and continue engaging in regular physical activities as part of their daily routines, stressing that individual wellbeing contributes significantly to overall organisational effectiveness and operational readiness.
The successful conduct of the Third Quarter Route March further demonstrates the commitment of FOB FORMOSO to promoting a healthy, resilient and physically prepared workforce. The exercise also reinforces the Base’s adherence to Nigerian Navy operational standards and its continued emphasis on personnel fitness, discipline, teamwork and combat readiness.
