Joint Tax Board, NCS Forge Collaboration For Effective Tax Management

In a significant move towards bolstering effective tax management in Nigeria, Mr. Olusegun Adesokan, the Secretary of the Joint Tax Board, embarked on a visit to the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, on January 16, 2023. The purpose of the visit was to seek collaboration on critical matters, particularly system integration and the finalization of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and the Joint Tax Board.

Mr. Adesokan underscored the necessity for a robust partnership between the Joint Tax Board and Customs during the meeting. The focal points of system integration and the pending MOU took center stage, with discussions extending to a proposed technical training session aimed at fortifying the collaboration.

Comptroller General of Customs Bashir Adewale Adeniyi highlighted the pivotal role of stakeholder engagement in achieving effective tax management. Emphasizing the collaborative imperative, he acknowledged that addressing such matters requires joint efforts, stating his commitment to liaising with the Human Resources Department to explore the proposed technical training session. Furthermore, he directed the legal teams to expedite the processes leading to the actualization of the MOU.

During the briefing, Assistant Comptroller General of Customs in charge of ICT/Modernization, Kikelomo Adeola, spotlighted the strides made in integration with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC). This integration aims to register only vehicles that have paid the correct customs duties, contributing to more efficient tax management.

The collaborative efforts between the Joint Tax Board and the Nigeria Customs Service underscore the commitment of both organizations to fostering synergy in addressing crucial issues related to tax management and system integration. This strategic alliance holds promise for streamlining processes and enhancing overall efficiency in the realm of taxation.
