In a spirited display of sportsmanship and community partnership, Forward Operating Base (FOB) FORMOSO emerged as champions in a keenly contested novelty football match against its host community at Egweama on May 26. This event was organized as part of the activities marking the 70th Anniversary Celebration of the Nigerian Navy.
The fiercely contested encounter showcased determination, skill, and community spirit, with both sides refusing to yield throughout regulation time. After 90 minutes of intense action concluded goalless, the match proceeded to penalties, where FOB FORMOSO maintained composure to secure a hard-fought 4–3 victory.

Following the match, the Commanding Officer of FOB FORMOSO, Captain SK Haruna, congratulated the victorious team for their resilience and determination. He also expressed appreciation to the host communities for their enthusiastic participation and support, noting that the highly competitive match reflected the strong relationship between the Nigerian Navy and the community. Captain Haruna emphasized that the novelty match was organized not only to celebrate the Nigerian Navy’s 70 years of dedicated service to the nation but also to strengthen civil-military cooperation through sports and social engagement.
The highlight of the event was the presentation of the championship trophy to the FOB FORMOSO team, while members of the host community team received cash gifts in recognition of their impressive performance and sportsmanship.
The event further underscored the Nigerian Navy’s commitment to fostering unity, friendship, and mutual understanding with host communities while commemorating its landmark anniversary.
